Started hearing a faint rattle on cold start about two weeks ago and it's been getting louder, which I know on these engines usually means the timing chain tensioner. I've read enough horror stories to know this can go from annoying noise to catastrophic failure pretty quickly, so I don't want to sit on it. The dealer quoted me something eye watering for the job and I'm trying to figure out if an independent can do it properly for less.
